ARTIST STATEMENT-
Odalys Burgoa (they/them) is a land steward, curator and multidisciplinary artist with a focus in photography and painting. They bridge their photography to their parents as a way of connecting through stories told by different generations in their family and community. Their paintings work collaboratively with stories from the family archives as they animate the relationships, fragments and moments in those photos. The bridges they create explore moments of resistance and the fractured bonds to the land and lost information through migration and its experiences, examples of intergenerational practices and the different identities that coexist through paintings. They curate to bring intergenerational experiences to life while celebrating the history of our communities.
