MARIE E. SAINT-CYR

Wyandanch, NY, 11798

CREATIVE DISCIPLINE-

Visual Art

PRIMARY MEDIUM(S)-
Oil Paint

ARTIST STATEMENT-

My work explores how we interact within imagined space by juxtaposing interior and exterior spaces, to challenge our understanding of what we perceive to be reality. As Haitian-American artist, the colors in my paintings evoke the charm and vibrancy of Caribbean pastorals alongside the urgency and layered energy of urban landscapes. The bright and saturated colors of the paintings express the strength and vibrancy of the Haitian people. The paintings resemble a collage because they are influenced by collages created from magazines and also digitally. I allow memories, emotions and present thoughts to influence the abstract shapes in the paintings.
