-BIOGRAPHY
Christina Thomas began painting at the age of 11 and her source of inspiration was a photograph of a landscape in National Geographic. She saw the beauty in nature and wanted to recreate that on a canvas. She realized she had a gift. Christina has an interest in abstraction, color and texture. She combines text and paint to convey a message to the viewer. Her words engage and challenge the viewer to think. The text emerges from the canvas and invades space with a sculpture like quality. Her images and figures move across the canvas with a romantic rhythm. The unique medium that she uses in her art is tissue. The letters are sculpted from tissue and adhere to the canvas with water. The ephemeral quality of tissue intrigued the artist and mirrored the fragility of her own life. She questions life itself when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and later on when she was diagnosed with renal failure. The doctors told her she had five years to live. She did not accept those words and began dialysis and is now on a transplant list. Her world was changed forever. She began to live each day as her last and her art reflected her passion and zest for life. Her art is about being in the moment. It is about being present for life and all its beauty.
